Thankful

We worked with understanding what words mean today in Word Study by picking 4 of our words and writing the definition, word in a sentence, synonyms and antonyms and drawing a picture for each word. Cypress was a pretty popular word as was bylaw and defray... does your child have any new understandings after this word work? Reader's Workshop was shortened due to pictures after special but in the time we had, we learned in Wonder, that Auggie got hearing aids! We also practiced making inferences with an "I have, who has?" game. Unfortunately, we had very little time to read independently and they let me know that this was not ok! :) In Math, our Number Talk had us using mental math for subtraction. The main strategies they use are place and value (tens-tens and then what's left-ones) and adding up. We also practiced subtraction using the traditional algorithm and we are still needing practice so we'll keep working at the regrouping and trading out. Our day ended with Science and our balance inquiry.
