Hectic times!
This is such a hectic time of year! I hope we can stay as focused as possible over the next two weeks... We are working with two 4-digit numbers this week as our morning work. Today, we had to write the numbers in standard form, word form and expanded form and also represented our numbers in base-10 blocks. In a combined word study/writer's workshop, we learned all the cool things that the dictionary tells us. Tomorrow, we'll be playing Dictionary Roll-a-Word. Jonas is getting increasingly more frustrated that the Community is so different from the memories that the Giver is giving to him. He wishes that everyone could feel and love again. I agree, Jonas! We wrote Haiku's in Reader's Workshop to show our understanding of the poem from StoryWorks, Ten Cent Haiku. After recess, we continued our work with equivalent fractions by making fraction strips and playing Cover/UnCover with them. Students felt much more secure with their understanding after today. Our day concluded with reading about the Mound Builders in Ohio. Did your kiddo learn anything new today?
