Yaaawwwnnn!
It took us quite awhile to get going this morning... Everyone was sooo tired after the amazing fall concert! Our morning was a hodge podge of things. We completed Wednesdays part of our Numbers of the Week, finished our Branches of Government from yesterday, prove-it to show silent consonant patterns and continued developing our characters and settings for our LEGO stories. (Next week, we'll be ready to "show" our story maps using LEGO's so any that you are able to donate, please do so this week!) After special, we finished Nightmare at the Book Fair with fiction for girls...OMG! :) What did your child think about the book? Did they find a new genre to try out? In Reader's Workshop, we read and read and read. Columbus State bloggers finished their blogs and some worked on their Story Works but for the most part, students read independently. By choice! They LOVE to read!! Instead of recess, some kiddos came into the room and watched a LIVE cooking demonstration from the White House Kitchen with Sam Kass about nutrition. He made a recipe from the Ohio winner of the Kids; State Dinner contest. Visit letsmove.gov to find more information and a TON of healthy recipes developed by kids! In Math Workshop, we modeled with math and persevered through problem solving with multiplication and division. Students worked pretty hard and were really good! Hopefully, they have the confidence now to know they CAN do this! Finally, we ended our day with Science and designing weathering experiments.
